During the pandemic, Royal Madikwe lodge by Dr Chai Patel has been working hard to support the local community. The lodge has been delivering 20 tonnes of food – 800 parcels of 25.6kgs – to villages where staff come from every 2- 3 weeks. This contribution has had an enormous impact on the residents, who have been struggling because of COVID-19.

The most recent donation was R688,000 (GBP £29,585) to the Angarha Community Care Program.  COVID-19’s devastating impact on the South African economy has resulted in a dramatic increase in unemployment, leaving thousands of people without the means to acquire basic resources like food and water and with limited access to medical care and personal protective equipment, with people living in rural communities being especially vulnerable.
